Superintendent Message

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff,

Welcome back to the 2019-2020 school year!  Quality teaching is the number one variable in student achievement according to Hammond (1997) and other researchers.  This is no surprise to anyone with children as teacher quality has a lasting effect for subsequent years on student achievement and ultimately career development.  Rha Chetty and his fellow researchers (2011) even go so far as to suggest that the quality of a teacher could make a quarter of a million dollar difference in earnings over a student’s lifetime. 

Using quality teaching as  a springboard, we have set several District goals (summarized below) that will assist all students in achieving college and career readiness which include: 1) To devise a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)  plan and timeline which will be embedded in each of the 5 career pathways we currently offer;  2) Utilizing technology to increase student engagement through modification and redefinition of information which promotes career ready skills, collaboration, comprehension, and creativity;  3) Emphasis on differentiated reading instruction based on students’ current reading level with growth measured through progress monitoring and curriculum based assessments. Supports for  reading skills shall be aligned to an intervention/enrichment Multi Tiered System of Support (MTSS) model;  4) Monitor and improve student attendance in all buildings through various processes including counseling, truancy elimination plans, licensed social workers, career planning, diversified occupation career opportunities for students in grades 11 &12, and school-wide positive behavior support;  5) Develop a personalized connection with all students to promote improvement of academics, behaviors, and attendance;  6) Career readiness which includes implementation of career education and workforce standards, career experience for students utilizing Monroe County business and industry representatives visiting our schools.

We have set aggressive goals! These goals will assist all students in their quest for academic excellence and support them for college and career readiness to compete locally and globally.

With all Stroudsburg Educators taking the time to reflect on the day-to-day interactions with students, to put into practice professional development opportunities, and engage students in meaningful instructional practice we ultimately “RISE” to a higher level of student achievement.
